About Me

My photo
Hi, my name is Maren Talcott. I am 22 years old, and I just graduated Washington State University with a degree in Elementary Education and minor in Spanish. My passion is teaching... I love children! I was born in Minnesota, but spent all of my life growing up in Washington. My dream is to become a kindergarten teacher, and inspire children to love learning! I have done little to no traveling in my lifetime outside of the United States. My goal for this blog is to keep my family, friends, and loved ones up to date on my experiences. I will be living in Guatemala for three months, Jan.-March 2014. I will be volunteering at the Opal House School near Lake Atitlan. The reason for traveling to Guatemala is to have the experience of a lifetime, and improve my Spanish! This journey will push me out of my comfort zone, and open my eyes to a whole new world. I know that I will show my love and compassion to the guatemalan people every single day, and hope that I can impact their lives as much as I know they will impact my own. Tomorrow is the day!

“Never say goodbye because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting.”

This week has been filled with many goodbyes. Not a single one of them left my eyes dry. I absolutely hate goodbyes more than anything in the world. I don't know if its the possibility of never seeing someone again or just the fact that you will go a long period of time without someone you care a lot about. I am so grateful that last night I was able to celebrate and get most of my friends together for one last hoorah! and say some very special goodbyes. I am so lucky to have fallen in love with an amazing boy named Danny, and this goodbye was definitely the hardest. Although, I am confident that we can make it through these three months with little communication and many miles in between us. My bags are packed and we leave tomorrow morning! Remember, my dad is going down with me to make sure I get there safely, and he is staying one week. Then... I am on my own! Please keep us in your prayers tomorrow as we are traveling!

Also, thank you to everyone who helped donate things for me to bring to the school in Guatemala that I will be teaching at. This picture shows some of the things that will be donated to the Opal House School.
